~ A little bit more about the authors ~
What brought you to Kids on Stage?
Bonnie: I had written a few chapels for the first graders and was asked to join the group. I really enjoyed the stretching experience of working on the ABC plays as a new format.
Diane: The idea of this book came to me when I couldn’t find a “play book” that I could use for school. I thought that if I had trouble finding something appropriate for children, possibly other teachers had also.
What is your favorite subject to teach?
Becki: I love to teach math, science, social studies … especially at the ah-ah moment when the light bulb goes on. The look in a student’s eyes when they “get it” is one of the greatest things in the world.
Bonnie: Language Arts
Diane: Reading and writing (of course)
Heidi: My favorite subject to teach is writing of course!
What is your favorite thing to do outside of school?
Becki: I love spending time with my own kids at home, relaxing at the beach, or enjoying other adventures together.
Diane: Outside of school, I enjoy reading, eating out, having coffee with friends, or shopping.
What is your proudest moment?
Bonnie: Watching my grandchildren see something exciting for the first time, for example, the whales we spotted on Captain Dave’s excursion boat off the California coast.
Diane: Besides when my own children were born, I was thrilled when we finished this book.
What is your favorite part of working with Kids on Stage?
Becki: Brainstorming new ideas is my favorite part of Kids on Stage especially when we finish something and everyone has contributed to the point that we don’t even know who thought of what or who should get credit. I also love to see our ideas brought to life on stage. I am constantly blown away by people’s creativity!
Bonnie: I love watching the children get excited about doing the plays each year and to see how they put their unique personalities forth in each production.
What would you consider a dream vacation?
Becki: My favorite vacation spot is in the warm clear blue waters of Hawaii with a snorkel mask on, swimming with the fish.
Diane: Hawaii, but I would love to visit Ireland some day.
If I wasn’t a teacher, I would be ____.
Becki: a marine biologist.
Bonnie: a nurse.
Diane: a full time writer.
People would be surprised to find out that ___.
Diane: originally I did NOT want to be a teacher. I wanted to be a flight attendant so I could see the world.
